This is an antique wood rocking chair with a caned seat. It is on the smaller side (as people from the mid 1800s were!). Peter inherited this from his great-aunt who was born in the late 1800's and believes she got it from her parents. So while there is no documentation of provenance it is probably from the mid-1800s. On this rocker the front is 15" high and the seat is 19" on the diagonal. These sell for several hundred dollars online and in antique stores.
