Early St. Patrick’s Party with the Real McKee
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Offered by Peggy McKee in her new digs located in Olde Towne Village Condominiums (a short hop from the church).

Everyone's Irish on St. Paddy's Day - same goes for the Friday before, when we can celebrate the high-holy, National holiday (at least it was in my family) when we can sleep in the next morning. Featured will be a real Irish dinner of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, Irish soda bread, trifle for dessert and lots more; real Irish libations with and without spirits; great Irish camaraderie; and surely the breaking out into Irish song. You don't want to miss this party. We're gonna have the best of Irish fun!

Guided Twilight Swamp Hike Mating season for Fireflies and Chorus Frogs
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
It's a Big Sexy Time in the swamp for Lightning Bugs and Gray Tree Frogs. You can see a few fireflies here and there on any summer night but the vast majority of firefly flashes for the year are concentrated for about a week's time in early to mid June. It's Firefly mating season and there is an EXPLOSION of firefly light that can at times be simply astonishing. The musical accompaniment is provided by many hundreds of male Gray Tree Frogs on the make. The firefly show starts at around 9:30 but peaks between 10:00 and 10:30. We will meet in the parking lot at the Wilma Schiermeier, Olentangy River Wetland Research Park at 352 W Dodridge St, Columbus, OH 43202 and walk the under 1 mile loop with some longer options. There are many thousands of Starlings roosting nearby and it's also not uncommon to see raccoons and bats and sometimes owls. Flashlights are discouraged but red lights are fine. We can provide red lights for about 10 people and a couple of kinds of bug spray. 30 15 000010.0 10 .0001E7 10 6/17/15 9:30 PM

Separate Is Never Equal: Sylvia Mendez and Her Family's Fight for Desegregation by Duncan Tonatiuh (winner of the 2012 Pure Belpre Award for Illustration) Published by Abrams, 2014
Almost 10 years before Brown vs. Board of Education, Sylvia Mendez and her parents helped end school segregation in California. An American citizen of Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage who spoke and wrote perfect English, Mendez was denied enrollment to a "Whites only" school. Her parents took action by organizing the Hispanic community and filing a lawsuit in federal district court. Their success eventually brought an end to the era of segregated education in California. Includes an Author's Note, Glossary, Bibliography, and Index. Tonatiuh's illustrations are inspired by ancient Mixtec art found in Mexico.

Dragon Parade Board Game (New in Shrink)

2-5 Players, Ages 6+, 30 Minutes. It's the Chinese New Year. The dragon parade starts from the Forbidden City and moves randomly through the streets. Where the parade ends, the celebration begins. During the parade, the street sellers must decide where to set up their stands to provide food and drinks. Naturally, they want to be close to the celebration. But who knows where the parade will end? Players play cards to move the dragon token and at the same time placing their street seller tokens where they think the dragon will end. Contents: 36 cards, 15 wooden street seller tokens, 1 wooden dragon token, 30 small coin tokens, 10 large coin tokens, 1 board. Merchants of Amsterdam Board Game (New in Shrink)
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
The players are knights competing to build castles in the kingdom, but building castles is not the only way to win. There are actually three ways to win: build four castles with different banners, build three different castles and topple the king, or build two different castles and win three tournaments. Players also have the opportunity to acquire special abilities. Players acquire the special abilities, build the castles, and win the tournaments by throwing six dice three times to beat the dice combination on cards that represent the castles, tournaments, and special abilities. Players try to roll matching pips on the dice and bigger is better, except that sixes are useless and discarded. Players may also attempt to capture cards from other players and players may acquire special cards to protect their cards from capture. The first player to reach one of the three winning conditions is the winner. Players need a good mixture of luck and skill to win this game. Amsterdam in 1600 was a booming town for trade and exploration. Dutch merchants traveled the world looking for valuable goods. The game features a special auction clock to support the use of the traditional Dutch auction. Author: Reiner Knizia. Players: 3-5 aged 10 and up. Length: 90 minutes. 1 0 000040.0 40 .00015E7 15

Skyline 3000 Board Game (New in Shrink)

2-4 players, 60 minutes, ages 10+. Skyline City, year 3000. Another urban colony on another nameless moon. The galaxy always needs more living space for the traders, the miners, the pilots, the farmers and the soldiers that ply the overdeveloped planets and the space lanes connecting them. The infrastructure has been built and the atmosphere is just about ready to accept citizens and their families. Now the only thing left to do is to build the city's skyscrapers! As usual, the Government has farmed out the job to several competing developers. Their hovering Plants are already in low orbit, their armies of riveting and welding robots are ready to construct the luxury condominiums and office towers that will comprise Skyline City, and lower them into place. No time is to be wasted: construction begins on the buildings before their locations are even secured. It will be a mad scramble to build the tallest buildings and install them in the best locations with access to the finest amenities. In the year 3000, city-building is a different game! 1 0 000060.0 60 .00015E7 15

The tasting will be held at the Pinsonneaults' home in Clintonville, where the wines will be accompanied by scrumptious, mouthwatering appetizers. The size of the winning bids will determine the quality of the wine that is served, so winners will most definitely get their money's worth! 8 0 000050.0 50 .00035E7 35 9/12/15 7:00 PM

From an Amazon review:
"Tom Barlow's stories are quirky, sharply drawn, wildly varied, often funny and always deeply compassionate. His protagonists are almost always people who I would not ordinarily encounter (and some I would never dream of) and the window he offers into their inner lives makes even the strangest among them believable. The twists in his stories often have me flipping back to the beginning, thinking 'should I have seen that coming?' Usually the answer is 'yes, I should, because he threw out some clues'...but I got so absorbed in the characters and their stories that I didn't think to predict the ending."

Signed by the author, Tom Barlow (better known as Su Farnlacher's husband)
This novel is both a love story and a mystery. I'll Meet You Yesterday is a beautiful tale of redemption set in a broken, near-future America. Lyrical and fresh, this novel explores memory, desire, and healing in a country torn apart by economic depression and environmental degradation, but held together by belief in the power of friendship. When the present is too harrowing to accept, the downcast escape into memories of the past. Barlow's future reads like a combination of William Gibson and Elmore Leonard.

Mead Tasting
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Mead (or the archaic "medd" or Old English "meodu") is an alcoholic beverage made from fermenting honey with water and various fruits, spices, grains, or hops. Meadologists claim it is the ancestor of all fermented drinks and marks the passage of humans "from nature to culture". We can debate this at the Brothers Drake Meadery as we tour and taste their honey wines made from local honey.
We will take a private guided tour and learn about the mead making process and the history of the company. We will taste mead in progress and then sample several of the finished meads.

One Hour of Dog Training / Exercise / Grooming
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Give a gift to your pet! I will provide one hour of your choice: dog training (simple things like sit, walk on a leash, come when called, not jumping, etc), dog exercise (a long walk? many tosses of a tennis ball?), or dog grooming (basic combing, matt-removing, ear-cleaning, or nail-clipping). I specialize in dog-friendly techniques that emphasize a conversation over a command - the goal being a happy, relaxed dog that willingly chooses to work with you. Provided at your location or a public park. (Please note I am NOT a professional, just a somewhat experienced dog lover!) 1 1 000020.0 20 .0001E7 10
