Two Martini Late Lunch/Dance
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Vodka or Gin? Shaken or stirred? These are important questions at Richard's party. Our "lunch" of martini soaked olives and other hors d'oeuvres will go down well with a dance hosted by a DJ on our new OCUUC patio - there may be potential for the occasional karaoke outbreak. Depends on how free-flowing the martinis are! Should there be kids - never fear. They will have fun in a bounce house. 25 16 000050.0 50 .0003E7 30 10/19/19 5:00 PM Y N

Tonk Party! Simple and fun card game with wine and appetizers
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Tonk is a very simple card game, easy to learn, similar to rummy. You have 5 cards to start, you draw a card each hand and must put down all your cards to win (in groups of 3), except that if you have 49 or 50 points in your hand right after the deal you win. That’s it! This includes gambling, so you put down an ante each hand (we will use poker chips). At the end of the evening, the top players each get a prize. Includes drinks (alcoholic and other) and hors d’oeuvres. Event for adults. From 18:00 to 22:00 (6 PM to 10 PM). 8 1 000013.67 13.67 .0000999E7 9.99 6/1/19 7:00 PM N N

Tea and Lady's and Gentlemen
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Join us at our home for an afternoon tea and the board game Ladies & Gentlemen. Game is for ages 14+ and takes about 30 minutes to play. We have a variety of other games that we can play afterwards if there is interest.

"Ladies & Gentlemen brings players into the world of glamour. In teams of two – one playing a man, the other a woman – the players try to pull together the best-looking and most famous couple who will attend the big ball. The gentleman's duty is to make as much money as possible, which the lady will then spend on jewelry, clothes, and exclusive accessories. Each team has its own action cards to carry out its tasks, and the more that the players embody their characters – flirtatious, fashion-obsessed ladies, and rich, arrogant, pretentious gentlemen – the more fun and explosive the game will be!"

This game casts the players in traditional Victorian roles but it does it in a ridiculous and silly way.

Join us at our home for a Beer tasting, appetizers, and fun. we will be playing Caverna the Cave Farmers a game for 1 to 7 players for ages 12+, it take about 30min per player.

"Caverna: The Cave Farmers is a worker-placement game at heart, with a focus on farming. In the game, you are the bearded leader of a small dwarf family that lives in a little cave in the mountains. You begin the game with a farmer and his spouse, and each member of the farming family represents an action that the player can take each turn. Together, you cultivate the forest in front of your cave and dig deeper into the mountain. You furnish the caves as dwellings for your offspring as well as working spaces for small enterprises." Brené Brown's amazing work "The Power of Vulnerability"
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Recently, I was introduced to the work of Brené Brown about vulnerability, courage, authenticity and shame. In fact, her Ted Talk has had more than 40 million views and is one the 10 most watched of all time. She offers insights about connecting more deeply. If you are not familiar with what she has to say, you might want to check it out. I have been so inspired about what she has to say, I'm offering an OCUUC auction item based on her work.

I think her message will be life transforming for me. You are invited to join in viewing her talk. We will also have an opportunity to share our thoughts and questions about her work in small groups.

The "I love Richard Neutra" architecture tour
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Richard Neutra, considered among the most important modernist architects, designed a number of buildings in the OC. Nina will chauffeur 3 people on Saturday, September 7th for this informative historical tour.

We will begin in Newport Beach at the Mariners Medical Arts Center. This is considered to be one of Neutra’s best works and has been cited as one of Orange County’s most significant buildings. In recent years, the developer has tried to alter this three-building complex, but preservationists have successfully saved it for now.

At 10am, we will visit the Neutra-designed Arboretum and Tower of Hope for a private, docent-led tour. These structures are on the grounds of Christ Cathedral (formerly known as the Crystal Cathedral) in Garden Grove and reopened in 2014, after undergoing a meticulous restoration.

This event is from 8am – 12pm. Coffee and a quick stop at Sidecar Doughnuts in Eastside Costa Mesa will start the morning.

Co-event with Bull Run UU - 3rd Annual Blind Wine Tasting Virginia vs. Temecula
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
The congregants at Bull Run UU love their wine. So do we. Brian Pace from BRUU has obtained wines from Virginia. There are over 250 wineries in the state and they cultivate different grapes than we do, particularly reds. Brian pours at several wineries there, so he knows his wine. He went with me to Temecula, and thought we should put them up against Virginia in a blind taste-test. So he is sending us something like a Norton - the State Grape of Virginia - and a Chambourcin (a bold and a fruity red) a Petit Verdot and a Viognier (fruity and dry whites). We will send him and taste here along with those four a Cabernet Sauvingnon, a mystery red of our own (a Pinot or Merlot?) and similar whites. We will skype the parties and compare the scores. There will be heavy appetizers such as meatballs and stuffed mushrooms as well as cheese pairings like nuts, dried fruits and meats and chocolates. There was much smack talk at the last one with very descriptive and hilarious comparisons made. The final results last time favored Cali! Everyone loved Coppola. Duh! I thought the $100.00 Private Reserve would win, but Francis knows film and wine. Either way, all of the wines were delightful. 8 -1 000080.0 80 .0003E7 30 6/30/19 4:00 PM N N
