Some desserts are NOT best when they are fresh. Apple Brown Betty tastes best when made with day-old bread. You need to make Trifle the day before so the flavors can meld. Scones are made with sweet raisins that have dried for days in the sun. Whiskey Cake isn’t right until it’s been kept in a dark place for a month (with more whisky sprinkled over it every few days, of course). Preserved Lemons must be submerged for weeks. And of COURSE, Chocolate Rum Balls must age for MONTHS before they’re ready! So what movie will we be showing? BORN YESTERDAY, OF COURSE! This year our hens Adeline, Celiata, Violet, Victoria, Ester, Kate, Annabelle, Stella, Stelaita, Daisy, Della, Rachel, Muriel, Parker,Theo, Blanche, Rosalie, Wilma, Marie, Emilie, Primrose, Ruby, Edna, Evangeline, Chuck Too, Chuck Three, Martha, Mary and Muncymeg have, after much discussion, again voted to support the TVUUC auction with a donation of their eggs. Co-flock roosters, brothers Burl and Ivan, who have a non-voting advisory role also agreed. Archie (as in "The Archie of the moral universe bends toward justice"—he and Theo and Parker hatched during the Zoom congregational meeting) and his companion Edith live outside the main flock but they too feel it is a good cause. Do understand this is a worker run, family flock egg production collective and the short days of winter are the traditional time that hens take a vacation from egg laying. To accommodate the virtual nature of the auction this year the hens are willing to email you three coupons for a dozen eggs each, depending on their personal timetables. Bill and Walter will act as their delivery team and will work with you to find a way to get the eggs to you. This now-vintage music box from the 1980s comes from my childhood collection of combined Harlequin figures and music boxes -- so I'm the original owner and would love to see it move on to someone else who has space to actually display and enjoy it. It stands about 5 inches tall and the figure rotates as the music (Beautiful Dreamer) plays. There is a wind up mechanism on the base as well as an on/off switch so you don't have to wait for the music to run itself out in order to stop. Otagiri Mercantile Company, headquartered in San Francisco, was a Japanese-American manufacturer of stoneware ceramics that started in 1946. When Otagiri was active, it was also a third-party manufacturer for the San Francisco Music Box Company.
