Grape vs. Grain Smackdown Dinner
Invalid Image LinkSold

The debate has gone far beyond tastes great or less filling when it comes to beer. In fact there are those among us who believe that beer deserves a place at the table equal to (or perhaps greater than?) wine. Ed Malone and Keith Huizinga invite you to jump into the ring and join the debate. The evening will include a multi-course gourmet dining experience, each course will have a specially selected wine (Ed) and beer (Keith) for our guests to sample. You will then have the opportunity to vote your opinion of the best pairing for each course. At the end of the evening we will tally the votes and determine once and for all (or at least until next year) the champion of fermented beverages.

Chicago's architectural history on your wall
Invalid Image LinkSold

When chewing-gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. started scouting locations for his company headquarters, he chose a site at the northwest corner of Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River. When construction began in 1920 the Michigan Avenue Bridge was still under construction, there were no major office buildings north of the Chicago River and Michigan Avenue to the north was known as Pine Street. Designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, the towers were dressed in a light cream-colored terra cotta. The building is a distinctive icon on Chicago’s skyline. The Tour de Beurre is the inspiration for the Chicago Tribune Tower. 10x14 framed.

Home IT work (Computer/Network upgrades/optimization, Data storage/recovery)
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Is your computer running slow? Do streaming movies take forever to load? Are you worried about your home movies/photo storage and backup strategy? Do you have data on an old broken PC that you need to recover?

I am a professional programmer by day, and a home computer tinkerer by night. I will spend up to 4 hours assessing your computer issues, discussing options and implementing upgrades.
How it works:
1. We talk at unity or on the phone about what you would like accomplished (I wouldn't count this time)
2. I come over to assess your hardware/software and come up with a plan. If possible I will fix or address the issues then, but if parts are needed, we will order them, and then go to 3:
3. I will return to perform the upgrades or whatever followup is needed to address your computerized concerns.

NOTES:
- Any extra costs (new parts, repair services that I am unable to perform, but are needed) will be covered by you, but I will help you find deals.
- HOME computers only. I am not willing to take on the responsibility or scope of a work network. A PC that you use at home for work is fine though.
- The time is flexible, but still limited. If it turns out that you have 10 hours of work that needs to be done then we will prioritize and fix the top couple issues.

Trek the Inca Trail, sip Pisco Sours, and be enchanted by the Inca Civilization
Invalid Image LinkSold

Bonnie, Stephen, Joan, Mila and Nile are taking you on an unforgettable trip to Peru. Forget that you are in Oak Park or River Forest or that Hemmingway or Wright even existed. We are forging our way up to Machu Picchu and passing out Cocoa Leaves (optional) for the high altitude; join our expedition! But first, you need the proper gear. Upon arrival, Mila will dress you in typical garb from the floating islands of Uros. Hats, scarves, vests, and for the ladies, long fancy earrings!
Get ready for your train ride on the Orient Express to Cusco. On board, Nile will teach each of you how to make a Pisco Sour so that you can enjoy the music and native dances performed right before your eyes! When you arrive, you will enter the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Joan will serve you appetizers of Tequenos (cheese sticks) and Peruvian potatoes with Guacamole, as Bonnie recreates in story what it was like to visit Urubamba. (Hemmingway, eat your heart out!)

Before we climb that mountain we need sustenance. So a lovely dinner start of Ceviche of Shrimp, and Mock Turtle Soup served by Stephen will open your appetite. As you drink your Pinot grigio, we will serve the traditional “Papa Rellena” and “Pollo Boracho” drunken beer chicken with a lovely salad. Over a dessert of Arroz con Leche (Peruvian Rice Pudding) you will get a chance to see the world’s deepest canyon (Colca Canyon) and experience the largest bird known to mankind, the Andean Condor.
This evening hosts include: Bonnie and Stephen Jordan, Joan Greene, and Mila Tellez and Nile Wendorf

If you crave real flavor diversity, come spend an afternoon learning why BEER is the world's most interesting libation As a certified beer judge and a home brewer for over 20 years, I've amassed a wealth of knowledge that is completely useless outside of a small circle of self-classified beer geeks. For a limited time only, well o.k., really anytime someone will listen to me, I'm offering to share from my private stock of specialty beers and spend an afternoon tasting many different beer styles and discussing the brewing process, food pairing and any other geeky beer related subject you care to discuss. A light snack will also be served.

Have you ever tried to mime or silently communicate instead of using words? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to express yourself more fully with your body? Bill O'Connor introduces the art of mime to all interested in this 90 minute interactive session. No prior experience required. All aged participants are welcome. You will experience simple physical techniques that will guide you toward creating popular mime illusions: the wall, creating the illusion of objects with just the use of your hands and more elusive challenges like embodying emotion and expressing abstract ideas with just your physicality. An Artful Afternoon - featuring Turkish Art past and present
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Leave the winter doldrums and join us for an Artful Afternoon with a focus on Turkish culture, including classic Turkish desserts with a presentation on the art scene in Istanbul. You will be greeted with a classic Turkish welcome: Limon Cicegi Kolonyasi to cleanse your hands; a small glass of Vizne suyu (cherry juice) a sign of welcome, and a taste of Lokum (classic Turkish Delight).

Turkey is a nation of sweet tooth’s. Desserts and puddings are eaten at any given time during the day. Cay and kafve flow freely, and are served from Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar to sidewalk cafes. Anne will regale you with treats learned from her Turkish cooking class. Ed has mastered the fine art of making Baklava. Expect Turkish Cay and Kafve served with Peynir helvasi (cheese halva), Yogurtlu pasta (yogurt cake), Baklava, Turkish savories, Revani (semolina sponge cake in syrup), Anadolu ispanak ezmesi (spinach with yogurt and pine nuts), Sigara boregi (cheese pastries), among other Turkish delights. You will get a brief history of these dishes and their ingredients.

A special highlight of the Artful Afternoon: Turkish Art: Past and Present. This is a visual presentation and discussion of art from The Istanbul Modern Museum (featuring modern and contemporary Turkish art), and the Sakip Sabanci Museum (known for its calligraphy collection) in Istanbul. We include scenes from the 13th Annual Istanbul Biennial which focused on the power of public space in terms of social struggles, art and politics. Anne will share a video of an art work called “Undressing” which features both the political and artistic purpose of the Muslim head scarf. We promise you will not be bored. Note: this is a second floor home with no elevator.

GO AHEAD - MAKE ME SMILE!!!

Invalid Image Link
As an experienced Photoshop artist, Jim Parks can do any number of tricks to enhance your favorite photos. While he may not be able to make you smile on paper, he can brighten your day by electronically repairing tears, scratches, faded contrast, and in some cases faded color. Isolating a subject from its background, adding drop shadows, removing dust specks and putting your head on another person's body are also possible. Dig out those treasured or historic family photos and have them spruced up for your display shelves or as gifts. He will work on as many photos as possible in one hour from either prints (up to 8.5 x 11), which he will scan and return, or from electronic files. You will get back electronic files to print in the size you desire. To see examples, visit http://www.jpedit.com/category/photo-restoration.
