Cambodian Adventures
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Join me in the Chapel after Sunday service and I will take you on a photographic journey across northern Cambodia visiting the numerous temples (including the famous Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm featured in the Tomb Raider movie) around Siem Reap, the Kampong Kleang Floating Village, and searching for the endangered Northern Yellow-Cheeked Gibbons near Ratanakiri in the wilds of north east of the country.

My guides were native Cambodians who offered great insight into the culture, history, and everyday life of this not-often-visited country. I hope to share some of those with attendees. Although I have travelled to many places in the world, Cambodia probably made the biggest impression on me in many ways.

Drinks and light refreshments will be offered.

Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Join your pals for a structured tasting of lush Bordeaux-style Pinot noir and Syrah wines. Sip up to five samples of vintages 1999-2009. Pair with appetizers to confirm your preferences (will you prefer chocolate with red wine?). Daughter Sarah Powell (1963-2009) trained in France, South Africa, Australia, graduated UC Davis with viticulture/enology degree, settled in Southern Oregon. A gifted and passionate grape grower/winemaker in the Rogue Valley, she made her impact at Foris Winery when Clinton Whitehouse served her Pinot, and Charles Beard's NY kitchen invited her to bring her wines to dinner. While designer/ winemaker for start-up Roxy Ann Winery, she released her own label shortly before her death from cancer at age 41. We'll love sharing her legacy with you. 16 15 000480.0 480 .0003E7 30 11/12/17 3:00 PM

All Church Fundraiser - OWL Program!
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
We are extremely proud to offer comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education curricula, “Our Whole Lives” (OWL), in our church.

Honest, accurate information about sexuality changes lives. It dismantles stereotypes and assumptions, builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, improves decision making, and has the potential to save lives.

Six curricula speak to participants' needs, by age group: grades K-1; grades 4-6; grades 7-9; grades 10-12; young adults; and adults and we have taught each of these levels at the UU Church of Spokane in the past!

To do so, however, we need specifically chosen and trained facilitators to teach the classes. The training is approximately $500 per person. It is a big commitment for the future facilitator and for our church.

Would you help support our efforts to continue offering these valuable classes to our youth and adults?

If you have questions about the OWL program please talk to Aria Curtis, Director of CFM or anyone on the OWL Task Force (Chandra Caine, Michele Riordan or Phyllis Thayer).

Just write the amount you want to donate in the right column.

Palestinian Dinner and Movie Night-sponsored by UUCS UUJME
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Come enjoy a delicious Palestinian Dinner and watch the 2014 movie Al Helm: Martin Luther King Jr in Palestine. The movie is a film of an African-American gospel choir’s trip to Palestine where they went to tell the story of Martin Luther King Jr’s life through song. An impassioned cultural exchange ensues, new friendships are forged, and attitudes altered. The film portrays the changes unfolding in the Middle East as a nonviolent movement grows in Palestine through the eyes of a Christian African American and the many people they encounter along their way. Fresh perspectives in understanding the realities of Palestinian life under occupation are revealed in many different situations, using humor, hardship, fear, and hope. 20 1 000500.0 500 .00025E7 25 2/10/18 5:30 PM

Neolithic Monuments and Culture in the British Isles
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Stonehenge! Newgrange! Avebury! Skara Brae! These are just a few of the stone circles, burial monuments, Neolithic villages, standing stones, brochs and other prehistoric structures that are scattered across the landscape of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Instead of a standard travelogue, this non-technical talk will combine a photographic tour of several dozen iconic prehistoric megalithic structures and archaeological sites with an explanation of what we know about their construction and use up to 5,000 years ago. It includes photographs I have taken on multiple trips to England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland over the past ten years.
